UCAR is steered by the community we serve. Our member colleges and universities set UCAR's overall direction, ensuring that we are meeting the most urgent needs of the research and education community.
The members, who represent virtually all the major Earth system science education programs. Being a member of UCAR means being part of a community that helps shape the future direction of the field of Earth system science. The UCAR consortium includes North American colleges and universities that offer research and education programs in Earth system science, ranging from meteorology to hydrology, oceanography, atmospheric chemistry, climate science, and beyond.

By formally establishing partnerships between UCAR and scientific organizations from outside North America, scientists at NCAR, UCAR, and our member institutions can tap into a wider variety of expertise and perspectives to solve the most challenging problems.

In FY14, NCAR participated in 14 field campaigns ranging in duration from 30 to 1, operational field days. A total of institutions, including 72 UCAR member institutions participated in these campaigns. The projects involved investigators, 95 undergraduate students, and graduate students.
